Girls’ Generation (aka SNSD, standing for “So Nyeo Shi Dae” in its native Korean). The first time I encountered this pop group I didn’t realise who they were. They appeared in one of the questions in my probability class at school. Back then, they were just unfamiliar names to me. It wasn’t until a friend of mine shared one of their music videos with me that I realised how beautiful and talented they are, and before I knew it I saw their music all over Facebook and YouTube. Since then, I’ve been a fan.
Their song “The Boys” was really fascinating for me. I was so captivated with it that I was determined to learn how to dance along. It took me a while to find a good instructional video (the first one I found only showed the first few steps) but finally I managed to find a video showing me all of the moves
"It was really difficult since the steps are not only fast but also very complicated."
But there was still a problem – I am not really a dancer. I tried my best to learn (I even recorded myself practicing) but it was still really difficult since the steps are not only fast but also very complicated. Eventually, I gave up.
It wasn’t until six months later that I stumbled on another dance video and got inspired again to finish learning the steps. It was still difficult, so to study it I had to play and pause and rewind the video frequently. It was quite troublesome as I wasn’t good at remembering the moves when trying to practice. I still recorded myself though, and here’s the result of my new attempt:
It took a while but I finally learned the dance. I was ecstatic! A year later a new song “I Got a Boy” was released and just like “The Boy” everybody was talking about it. A lot of dance covers kept appearing on YouTube so after my first success I thought I would try to learn this new dance as well. It was still difficult though and I encountered all the same problems. Disheartened, I stopped trying to learn the dance.
"I was able to find a solution to my problems.
I found StepUp.io.”
After a while though, in an unexpected way, I was able to find a solution to my problems not just with learning dance moves but for other things as well. I found StepUp.io. I was really surprised when I tried using it; it has lots of cool features and a really user-friendly interface. I embedded a video from YouTube (I Got a Boy dance tutorial, of course) and I tried to continue studying it. Here’s a video of my practice using StepUp.io.
StepUp.io enables you to divide any video into several steps, which you can then watch and repeat with the loop function (which you can also turn off). But most importantly you can also adjust the speed, which makes it really good for fast and complicated dance steps or procedures. There are easy-to-use buttons to take you to the next step or move to the higher level. At the higher level, steps become longer so you can practice a combination of the smaller steps which you’ve learned previously.
"You can also adjust the speed, which makes it really good for fast and complicated dance steps or procedures."
It is really a great help in learning. It revolutionizes the way we learn from tutorial videos available on the Internet. It is very flexible since you can use it if you want to learn how to cook, play a musical instrument, or dance, just like me. I’m not saying that you will be able to dance like your idols after one go (you still need to practice!) but with StepUp.io practice is made easier and better than ever.
But don’t just take my word for it, try it out yourself. Here’s the video I used to practice my latest dance. Have fun learning!
